Monte Carlo Polo Cup 2016

Two days ago, Prince Albert handed out the awards for the Monte Carlo Polo Cup 2016, with Princess Charlene by his side – looking stunning as ever, of course! I’ve got to say, while I can never have too much of the evening gowns and the dripping diamonds that we get at formal events, I still have a soft spot for the casual engagements that showcase Charlene’s simple, elegant style.  Let’s face it, everyone – or almost everyone, I guess – can look classy in formalwear, but not everyone can look classy around horses. (Photos courtesy of Facebook.)

Charlene wore this black, soft-bateau neck pullover in conjunction with white skinny trousers (or they might be jeans, but I can’t tell from here) and comfy brown boots. The combination of brown with black doesn’t usually result in a successful verdict from me, but in this particular case, it does. I love the flow of the outfit, the casual style, and each element is lovely by itself. I’m surprised that they work well together here, but for me, this was a win.

This photo gives us a view of the back of the pullover, which is very surprising to me. I wasn’t expecting an accented back, but there it is. You also get a closer detailing on the pullover itself here, which seems to be a knit with detailing on the seams. Subtle and lovely. (This photo also gives us a clear look at the back of her hair, which seems to be perfectly trimmed – I like how she is styling her hair now that the pixie has grown out.)

She also accessorized with sunnies (shown in the first photo) and the above Louis Vuitton bag, which is hard not to love!

While this photo is way too close up, it does give us a good look at her makeup, which is natural and muted, and at the cross necklace that she wears so often. This necklace seems to be a signature piece of hers, though I don’t think I’ve seen such a close-up look at it before. Is anyone else surprised that she decided not to wear earrings, though? I would say this was the one flaw in an otherwise perfect appearance. A good set of earrings would have completed this look, and Lord knows Charlene has no shortage of good earrings.

All that cutesy hand-holding, too. I love this couple.

It really was a lovely appearance from the princess, and her wardrobe gave me a delightful reminder of how much I love cool-weather fashion. Fall is here, complete with boots and sweaters, and I can’t get enough. Bring it on!

Pique-Nique Monégasque 2016

This past weekend, the Princely couple attended the annual pique-nique Monégasque, and to the delight of the crowds, Prince Jacques was in attendance as well. He was super adorable, of course, though we were all left searching for Princess Gabriella. Unlike last year, when both twins attended the picnic, this year only one half attended, and I’m scratching my head to figure out why. My guess is that it must be something completely run-of-the-mill, like Gabriella must have a cold or something, or perhaps was just having an off day, but it’s always a little jarring to see one of these little tykes minus the other one. I guess that’s what happens with twins though, they’re always expected to be together for no real reason whatsoever. (If you’re a twin and have experienced this, let me know!)

Prince Jacques was probably the only thing that could possibly have taken all the attention away from his mother, and he really is starting to look like the most handsome little boy! I am super interested to see which boy ends up more handsome, Prince Jacques or Prince George. Right now they’re tied for cuteness!

Has anyone noticed Jacques’ adorable CURLS? They are getting long, and I love them! I have heard from mothers of boys and girls that it’s tougher for moms to cut their boys’ hair, and seeing this photo, I can understand why. Look how sweet! (Plus, anyone else notice how Charlene’s lipstick is the EXACT same shade as Jacques shirt?? Talk about coordination!)

Now…let’s talk fashion!

Charlene looked ultra-chic for the pique-nique in a structured Vilshenko floral-print dress. The cut is absolutely gorgeous and it fits her perfectly, but I can’t make up my mind whether I love or hate the print. She certainly makes it work: she coordinated with just the right makeup and subtle jewelry to let the dress take center stage, and it’s not overwhelming on her. It’s just…that print. Florals can be lovely, and I think I’m leaning toward liking this dress. It’s just that it reminds me very much of the Duchess of Cambridge’s recent McQueen:

Remember this one? Great from a distance, but when you get close up…

…oh dear. Like Jane said in her post, it’s like all the emojis fell out of her phone and landed on her dress. I think Charlene’s Vilshenko is much better, especially when you see these two side by side, but it still has the same quality that makes me pause.

Having sufficiently overthought all of this, I think I can come to the conclusion that I would call this a win. Especially with those shoes – yes! And once again sporting the Dior classic earrings-that-go-with-everything, the entire look comes together with great success. She was chic, elegant, poised, and still able to dote on her little boy like any mother would.

What do you all think of this dress? Yay or nay?

Princess Charlene Participates in World First Aid Day

I promised I’d be back soon, so here I am! After her stunning appearance at the nursing school graduation, Princess Charlene headed to Geneva, Switzerland, to participate in the launch of World First Aid Day 2016. As we all know, Charlene takes a firm stance on first aid awareness and its applications, so it was no surprise to see her front-and-center at the launch. She gave a speech at the press conference and taught children some life-saving techniques first-hand. (Photos courtesy of Facebook.)

Being a Goodwill Ambassador for the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent Societies, Charlene’s speech was impassioned and direct, calling for children worldwide to be trained in first-aid. Her stance seems to stem from her well-founded belief that children are more than capable of saving lives – as long as they know the proper techniques and responses to various life-threatening situations.

Personally, I love Charlene for entrusting children with these sorts of skills. Children are so much more capable than we give them credit for, and while it is always a good rule to search for a qualified adult in perilous situations, children can be a valuable help to themselves or anyone in need, assuming they have learned the proper skills. Things like drown-proofing and CPR are basic techniques that children can learn with relative ease, and just knowing these tools can be life-saving in emergencies. At the launch, it was estimated that more than one million children are lost every year to treatable injuries. As a parent, that strikes me as horrifying. I could go on and on, but I’ll take a deep breath here and re-focus my energy…

…onto the engagement itself. Charlene was poised, as usual, and dressed to work. I appreciated the fact that she nixed the opportunity to get dressed up, and instead opted for navy trousers with a polo. Of course, the polo did give a shout-out to the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and to the Red Cross, but why not? That was the whole point of the day.

She did give a little sense of her style with jewelry, though – those Dior earrings again! I love them so, and somehow they were just right with this outfit. I think Charlene has given these earrings some really great press: they can be dressed up or down and still make the entire look come together with smashing success. Perfection!

And I’m still lovin’ on her hair. Duh.

I will be back again (just watch, after all that waiting throughout August, you guys will be sick of me by the end of September!) with some more gorgeous updates from yet another outing. Stay tuned!

On a slightly more somber note…today is September 11th, and I would be remiss not to acknowledge it. For the lives lost, and those who were left behind in the wake of unspeakable sadness, we are thinking of you today with heavy hearts and sober minds. You are remembered.

She’s Baaaaack!

It has been a long time, folks. Actually, it hasn’t been *that* long, but it has been about a month since we’ve seen Princess Charlene out-and-about, which is agonizingly long to wait as a royal watcher. Top that off with the fact that I’m not too keen on summer to begin with – though if you talk to me in the middle of a winter storm, my tune might change on that one – so I was not a joyful person to be around during the royal dry-spell that was August. I tried to remind myself that much of Europe takes long, extended summer holidays that usually land in and around August, so that gave me a little more patience. Once September hit, though, I was ready for my refill of Charlene and her gorgeous clothes, jewelry, hair…everything. Luckily, Charlene did not disappoint, and she kicked off her return to engagements by handing out the diplomas for some lovely nursing school graduates. (Photos courtesy of Facebook.)

The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation had supported these graduates back in June, when they assisted in organizing a drowning-prevention awareness day, and Charlene thusly sponsored their graduation – in person, no less! A wonderful gesture, undoubtedly special for the graduates, and equally near and dear to Charlene, as we all know how important water safety awareness is to the princess.

As for Charlene’s appearance, she couldn’t have looked more lovely in what I believe to be another Roland Mouret dress. We know that Charlene has clearly favored the designer this year, but this time we got a pop of color to go along with it! I am so used to seeing Roland Mouret dresses in white, thanks to both Charlene and the Duchess of Cambridge, so seeing this bright red number was a delightful change of pace for me. Some have critiqued the shoulders on this as being strange, width-wise, but they’re not bothering me. Charlene is statuesque enough to pull it off, I think. I love the structure of it, and the unique, modern version of the cap-sleeve actually works here. And those heels? Yessssss.

Makeup was perfect, and her hair, guys…wow. It was so stunning! The pixie seems to have grown out a bit more, and her coloring is a bright blond that is absolute heaven with her end-of-summer tan. (Charlene’s skin is still quite fair, but you can tell she’s enjoyed some sun this past month.) I only wish we could have had a better look at her jewelry. It’s hard to see on here, but she’s wearing the most delicate silver necklace, which matches some very unique, equally delicate – but quite sparkly – earrings. I’m hoping we can get a repeat on these items in the future, so we can have a better look!

Another post coming very, very soon on Charlene’s second engagement since her return, where she took part in some very important first-aid lessons. All that and more coming soon! Until then, it’s good to see you all again and be BACK! Hooray!
