Charlene and Jacques Attend Rugby Tournament

I am hopeful that this post will delight you all, though it is coming to you a bit late. I have been battling an ear infection this past week, and it’s not awesome. Have you ever had an ear infection as an adult? It’s the opposite of pretty. But no excuses! Here is the long-awaited post, covering Charlene and Jacques’ attendance at the 6th Annual Sainte Dévote Rugby Tournament.

The tournament itself is hosted by the Princess Charlene Foundation, and it supports youth rugby while bringing together various teams of different nationalities to promote their integration. We all know that sports are very important to Charlene and Albert, as are children and the mixing of nationalities (as we can see in their own relationship, right?), so this event seems to have been specifically formulated for the things that matter most to the couple. All we need to do is throw in some solar panels and it’s their version of heaven, am I right?

Let me just start by saying the obvious: Jacques is one cute kid. He’s what, 14 months old now? And it’s 14 months of pure cuteness. I don’t think I can accurately say who he resembles more, as it seems to depend on his facial expression, but he seems to have inherited the wide-set, water-clear eyes and ethereal gaze from his mother. I would have loved to see Princess Gabriella, too, but she didn’t show up – perhaps she is also nursing an ear infection? Lord, I hope not. But my instinct tells me that if Gabriella were sick, Charlene wouldn’t have been here for the tournament and, if she had, she wouldn’t have appeared nearly as relaxed. So maybe the tiny tot is just not feeling the rugby spirit, whatever! In all honesty, I’d probably want to stay home too!

But Jacques really stole the show at this tournament, and nobody’s complaining about that. He is obviously adorable, outgoing, energetic, and eager. Given the fact that the tournament also boasts a toddler rugby program, it made perfect sense that his parents wanted to get him used to the idea right away, in the beginning of his toddling phase.

Those eyes. I mean!

The stunning princess award goes to Charlene though, and not because she was the only princess there (to my knowledge!). She looked absolutely gorgeous, even in the rain and super casual. I’m not sure what I would call this jacket: it’s not quite rigid enough to be a jacket, but it’s open and too long to be a sweater. Call me crazy, but I think I might call it a duster. Could Charlene be bringing dusters back? I was a huge fan of them like 10 years ago, so I wouldn’t complain. This one was lovely, with sparse indications of simple detail but a lot of casual elegance. Paired with the black turtleneck, black leggings, and tall black boots, that is one fashion-forward, chic mama.

Her makeup surprised me, in a good way! I was looking through these photos while I was sick, trying to figure out what was different. At first I thought it was just me, because my brain felt fuzzy, but then I realized it was her makeup: it’s neutral! I am so used to seeing Charlene with a bright lip that this look really caught me off guard. Her nude lip was amazing. It’s not that we never see a nude lip with Charlene, but it’s not as common. That, paired with the neutral face/eye makeup and the soft styling of her pixie made this entire look pop out to me. She was perfection.

I hope you all enjoyed these photos thoroughly enough to forgive my tardiness on this post! I am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel – or my ear canal, as it were – with regards to this infection, so hopefully all will return to normal soon. In the meantime, soak up the perfection that is Prince Jacques and Princess Charlene and I’ll see you all soon!
