Good Friday Procession at the Princely Palace

An early Happy Easter to you all, and I hope you are having a wonderful Holy Week so far! As a Catholic nation, Monaco always delights us with religious celebrations throughout the year, and the Princely couple is usually quite involved in each celebration. As many of you are quite aware, yesterday was Good Friday – a particularly sacred time for Catholics – and the Monégasque people put on their annual Good Friday procession at the Princely Palace. (Photos courtesy of Facebook.)

As they do every year, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene enjoyed the procession from the balcony, looking so lovely in their understated elegance, as always. Princess Charlene wore some pretty awesome slacks for the occasion; however, I have mixed feelings: I am both infatuated and bothered by these pants at the same time. The high waist, wide leg, and the quality of the material (from what I can tell in the photos) send my heart aflutter. But the length…

…oh, the length. I am so particular about the length of pants, skirts, dresses, etc., to the point where it’s more than a cute quirk of mine. Remember Duchess Kate’s glorious pink-on-pink McQueen that she wore in Australia? It was amazing, and I still couldn’t get over the back of her skirt being an inch lower than the front of her skirt. That jaw-dropping emsemble, which was perfection in every way, bothered me all day. And last night’s Good Friday procession was no different for me: these pants are gorgeous, but their length bothers me. They need to be a touch longer. Just my opinion, but there you have it.

Her heels were killer though. Loved ‘em. Coat and blouse were also winners, and I think if the pants had been longer, the entire look would have been flawless. Those earrings, by the way, have been identified by our dear reader Solène (merci Solène!) as being undeniably Dior. This explains why they were 1) gorgeous, 2) unique, and 3) on Princess Charlene, who is Dior’s biggest fan. It all makes sense now, and all is right with the world.

It also appears that HSH has gotten a trim on her pixie cut, too, which I personally find lovely; however, this has once again sparked some harsh criticism. People either love this cut or hate it, and the people who hate it are quite vocal about their feelings. Ok, I get it, they like longer hair. My two cents: the people who hate this hairdo need to take care of twins for a week and then tell me again how they feel. Charlene is already chic beyond our highest aspirations for chic, so she can do whatever she wants and look terrific. Especially since she has twins, she can really do whatever she wants and be winning in my book.

Here’s hoping we see more of the Princely couple over Easter, and until then, blessings to you all for a wonderful and joyous holiday!

A Snowy Holiday for the Princely Family

Good afternoon, all! Today I have a delightful surprise for you: just weeks after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge released the photos from their skiing holiday in the French Alps, Paris Match has published very similar photos of the Princess of Monaco with the twin babies. It seems that the Princely family of Monaco was celebrating Prince Albert’s birthday on the slopes of Switzerland, and these photos were released just days ago. (Photos courtesy of Twitter and Facebook.)

The cover of the magazine portrayed Charlene, looking tremendously glamorous for a mother of 1 year old twins. Then again, she is a princess, and she knows how to carry herself as one, even in the snow! I think her coat here is magnifique, and the hat seems to be the same as the one she wore to serenade her father for his birthday. The most notable accessory, though, is her smile. She is radiant. I’m not sure if it’s the ambiance (look at that view, and take me there please) or the almost guaranteed giggles coming from the mini-sleigh behind her, but that smile speaks volumes.

But let’s not waste time here: the children were looking adorable!!! I love their matching blue-and-pink snowsuits, though I was amused to see no red noses or gloved hands…my guess is that the Swiss sun did a good job that day to warm things up for this photoshoot. But back to the kiddos. I was super excited to see little Gabriella feeling so much joy. We haven’t seen her in awhile – or maybe it’s just that I really missed seeing her at the rugby tournament? I don’t know, but she melted my heart today. Come to think of it, maybe that’s why nobody looked ice-cold in the snow. Wink, wink.

See what I mean? A little princess, literally. The siblings appear to be quite fond of each other, too, which is lovely to have captured in a photo.

This particular photo, though, stuck out to me as a showcase for Jacques. While Gabriella really held the focus of the previous two, I think the facial expression on Jacques here is quite regal. (Sidenote: how is it possible to look regal at 1 year old?) Sometimes kids give us glimpses of what they will look like as adults, just for a precious moment here or there, and I think this is one of those moments for Jacques. Commanding and serious, wouldn’t you say?

But it’s nice to be reminded that they’re still babies! Truthfully, this photo spread was a complete treat for royal watchers, especially when put side-by-side with the Cambridge family’s recent skiing adventure. It seems that all the best royals are enjoying the snow while the season is still here. For now, this was a wonderful way to bid adieu to winter and welcome in the spring. Just a few more days, guys…say it with me now…

Happy Birthday to Prince Albert!

Even though we are focused on Princess Charlene here at this blog, we would be remiss to neglect the birthday of her wonderful husband, Prince Albert II. Today the sovereign marks his 58th birthday, and we can only assume that he is spending the day with his wife and twin toddlers. Undoubtedly, this birthday will be much more fun than the last, when the babies were only about 3 months old and probably were more keen on spitting up rather than giggling. Given the fact that Prince Jacques was recently seen toddling with Charlene at a rugby game, we can safely assume today has been filled with chasing both babies around the house and hopefully having a ball.

Truly, it has been a wonderful year for the Prince, at least from the perspective of all that has happened in the last year. He’s had an audience with the Pope, celebrated 10 years on the throne, seen his children baptized, participated in some environmental initiatives in Monaco and abroad, attended a few family weddings, and has had numerous occasions to show off his beautiful children.

In case you can’t tell: that is Prince Albert with Prince Charles at the COP21 conference for climate change in Paris last year.

And I put this one in just because it’s Prince Albert and Leonardo DiCaprio together in one photo. Which means it’s awesome in every way…I don’t know who I’m more jealous of in this picture!

Monaco is certainly lucky to have this particular prince on the throne, as he seems to be tenderhearted, intelligent, compassionate and conscientious all at once. I certainly hope he has another year filled with joy.

Wishing Prince Albert a very happy birthday, with many happy returns of the day!

Charlene and Jacques Attend Rugby Tournament

I am hopeful that this post will delight you all, though it is coming to you a bit late. I have been battling an ear infection this past week, and it’s not awesome. Have you ever had an ear infection as an adult? It’s the opposite of pretty. But no excuses! Here is the long-awaited post, covering Charlene and Jacques’ attendance at the 6th Annual Sainte Dévote Rugby Tournament.

The tournament itself is hosted by the Princess Charlene Foundation, and it supports youth rugby while bringing together various teams of different nationalities to promote their integration. We all know that sports are very important to Charlene and Albert, as are children and the mixing of nationalities (as we can see in their own relationship, right?), so this event seems to have been specifically formulated for the things that matter most to the couple. All we need to do is throw in some solar panels and it’s their version of heaven, am I right?

Let me just start by saying the obvious: Jacques is one cute kid. He’s what, 14 months old now? And it’s 14 months of pure cuteness. I don’t think I can accurately say who he resembles more, as it seems to depend on his facial expression, but he seems to have inherited the wide-set, water-clear eyes and ethereal gaze from his mother. I would have loved to see Princess Gabriella, too, but she didn’t show up – perhaps she is also nursing an ear infection? Lord, I hope not. But my instinct tells me that if Gabriella were sick, Charlene wouldn’t have been here for the tournament and, if she had, she wouldn’t have appeared nearly as relaxed. So maybe the tiny tot is just not feeling the rugby spirit, whatever! In all honesty, I’d probably want to stay home too!

But Jacques really stole the show at this tournament, and nobody’s complaining about that. He is obviously adorable, outgoing, energetic, and eager. Given the fact that the tournament also boasts a toddler rugby program, it made perfect sense that his parents wanted to get him used to the idea right away, in the beginning of his toddling phase.

Those eyes. I mean!

The stunning princess award goes to Charlene though, and not because she was the only princess there (to my knowledge!). She looked absolutely gorgeous, even in the rain and super casual. I’m not sure what I would call this jacket: it’s not quite rigid enough to be a jacket, but it’s open and too long to be a sweater. Call me crazy, but I think I might call it a duster. Could Charlene be bringing dusters back? I was a huge fan of them like 10 years ago, so I wouldn’t complain. This one was lovely, with sparse indications of simple detail but a lot of casual elegance. Paired with the black turtleneck, black leggings, and tall black boots, that is one fashion-forward, chic mama.

Her makeup surprised me, in a good way! I was looking through these photos while I was sick, trying to figure out what was different. At first I thought it was just me, because my brain felt fuzzy, but then I realized it was her makeup: it’s neutral! I am so used to seeing Charlene with a bright lip that this look really caught me off guard. Her nude lip was amazing. It’s not that we never see a nude lip with Charlene, but it’s not as common. That, paired with the neutral face/eye makeup and the soft styling of her pixie made this entire look pop out to me. She was perfection.

I hope you all enjoyed these photos thoroughly enough to forgive my tardiness on this post! I am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel – or my ear canal, as it were – with regards to this infection, so hopefully all will return to normal soon. In the meantime, soak up the perfection that is Prince Jacques and Princess Charlene and I’ll see you all soon!
