The Twins’ Birthday Party in Monaco

Everyone get ready to celebrate again: we have new pictures of the 1-year old twins! Children from the schools in Monaco threw a huge party for the little prince and princess, where they presented the twins with two cheesecakes – one pink and one blue. (Photos courtesy of Facebook.)

Jacques looked dapper in an itty-bitty tuxedo, while Gabriella looked like a true little princess in her white, long-sleeved dress and beige shoes. She topped off the look with her hot-pink pacifier – has anyone else noticed that this particular binky seems to be a prized, favorite item of the princess? She seems to get a lot of mileage out of it. I hope Charlene and Albert have a full stash of these, just in case this one gets chucked behind the changing table or something. Kind of like the favorite stuffed animal: always have a backup.

Let’s talk about Charlene, though! The Princess of Monaco matched her daughter in a long, white skirt with a matching coat and a light-beige turtleneck. I’m actually not a huge fan of this outfit, but I feel it deserves a win for how it matches with Gabriella. For those of you who don’t have kids, see what she’s doing here: leaning over about two feet to shake hands with someone, while balancing a toddler on her hip? Yeah, that’s not easy. Props to Charlene for maintaining her swimming muscles to handle this kind of strain.

First taste of birthday cake! Can we talk for a minute about Charlene’s earrings? I’m still trying to figure them out. I love them, but they seem to have an usual back to them – perhaps another pearl? – that kind of droops down. I wish we had a better photo, but I’m pretty sure they’re the same earrings she wore to the Grand Prix this year. I couldn’t figure them out then, either.

Jacques is so alert! He seems genuinely interested in socializing, here. But I kind of freaked out when Charlene allowed all the kids to shake his hands. Don’t get me wrong, it was really sweet of her and it probably meant a lot to the kids, but as a mom, I couldn’t get over the idea of germs. I don’t know, a one-year old shaking hands with tons of school-age kids who might all have colds…it just made me panic a little. But I suppose one has to be exposed to germs in order to fight them off, right? C’est la vie!

And we finally got some images of Jacques first steps! This was very exciting. Gabriella was perhaps feeling a little more shy about walking, or perhaps she’s not quite as steady on her feet as her brother, but Jacques seemed to be confident and ready to waltz right into the crowds. Good thing his parents were there to hold him back!

This was a joyous outing and a fantastic way to celebrate the twins’ first year. I felt like we were lucky: they could have given a balcony appearance, but instead they agreed to get up-close and personal with the crowds. The family looked radiant, and the Monégasque children were obviously delighted to share in this momentous celebration with the Princely couple. A beautiful day!
