Happy Birthday to the Twins!

Unless you were living under a rock one year ago, you know that today is the first birthday of the royal twins! The adorable little tykes, Gabriella and Jacques, turn one today, and will celebrate their first birthday calmly with their parents. While Prince Albert has been in Paris for the Cop21 climate conference these past weeks, he will return to Monaco today to spend family time with his toddling tots. Just under a year ago, the twins posed for their first photoshoot. Since then, we have seen them snoozing on the balcony a few times, admiring their public on the cathedral steps, celebrating Monaco’s National Day with their parents, and marching (well, for them it was more like strolling) for the environment.

Prince Albert recently underwent an interview in which he praised Princess Charlene for how the twins have been thriving and happy throughout the past year. Apparently, the new mom is up at the crack of dawn with them every day, taking them through their routines mostly single-handedly, mirroring the same routine that most mothers face on a daily basis. Only she does it times two, so really she mirrors the routine that mothers of multiples face. I shudder to think of the workload that must be…I’d probably be waving the white flag after attempting it for a couple weeks.

Apparently, the babies toddlers are now starting to walk, entering into that fun phase also known to most parents as the “watch them like a hawk” stage. Given that Charlene has already introduced them to swimming, it’s not surprising that their gross motor skills are so sharp. It’s amazing that an entire year has passed and we’ve been able to see the twins grow from tiny infants into pinchable babies, and now into their next phase of toddlerhood.

Today also marks a fun milestone for me here, too, sitting behind my laptop and typing to you dear readers…because we started this blog one year ago exactly, on the day that Charlene delivered her twins. Given that the twins arrived a bit prematurely, everything started a bit earlier than expected, but I couldn’t be happier with the blog’s first year. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading, and that you’ll stay with us for a long time to come. Now go eat a cupcake – or two! – in honor of the twins’ first birthday!

  1. I’ve been following your blog for a few weeks now, and am enjoying it very much. The different lifestyle between the British Royal Family and the Monagasque royals interests me. Charlene and Albert seem practically like part of the population of Monaco, where in the UK there is such a gap between royals and populace. Thank you also for punctuation twins correctly when you use it in the possessive. I don’t think I could follow a blog that used “twin’s” as a plural or a possessive!

Hi Allie – thank you for following, and welcome!! I agree with you: it’s very, very interesting to follow different royals throughout the world and examine their interactions with the public. Pointing up the comparisons is fascinating. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the blog, and I promise to continue using correct punctuation/grammar as much as possible. It seems as though we are kindred spirits: seeing that kind of error would most certainly drive me crazy, too!
